What is the Irish Video Game Orchestra?
IVGO is a Belfast-based volunteer orchestra and registered charity (NIC108928) founded in 2015. We perform video game music with full orchestral arrangements: strings, brass, woodwind, choir, band section. Concerts across the island of Ireland and the UK.
Is IVGO a professional orchestra?
Our musicians are professionals and semi-professionals who participate on a volunteer basis. We pay all performers for concert days at or above Musicians' Union rates, but rehearsals and preparation time are given voluntarily. We are not a commercial touring franchise; we are a charity. There is a difference, and we find it personally motivating.
How is IVGO funded?
Through a combination of box office income, charitable grants (Arts Council Northern Ireland, Arts Council England, local councils), donations, merchandise, and sponsorship. No trustees receive any payment.
Where are you based?
Belfast, Northern Ireland. We rehearse at various venues in Belfast and perform across the island of Ireland and the United Kingdom. In 2027 we perform at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Where can I buy tickets?
Tickets for all IVGO concerts are available through the venue box office directly. Links to purchase are on each event page at ivgorchestra.com/concerts.
Do you offer discounted or access tickets?
Yes. We offer access pricing for students, over-65s, and anyone on means-tested benefits. Access ticket allocations are limited. Check each event page for details. If you have difficulty affording tickets, contact us and we'll do our best to help.
Are your concerts suitable for children?
Many of our concerts are suitable for all ages, particularly Start Quest, our family matinee format. Evening concerts are generally appropriate for ages 8 and above. We have yet to traumatise a child, which we consider a strong record. Check individual event pages for age guidance.
Do you broadcast your concerts?
Where rights allow, yes. Broadcast concerts are streamed free on our YouTube (@IrishVideoGameOrchestra) and Twitch channels, and the archive remains free to watch forever. No paywall, no login required.
Can I audition to join IVGO?
Yes. We take on new musicians on a rolling basis whenever we have a vacancy. No fixed audition calendar. Get in touch, tell us your instrument and background, and we'll go from there. Find out more →
Do you audition non-Irish musicians?
Yes. The "Irish" in IVGO is about where we're rooted, not who plays. About a third of our current roster is from elsewhere. Mostly UK and EU, plus a handful from further afield. If you can get to Belfast, get in touch.
I don't play an instrument. Can I still get involved?
Absolutely. We always need volunteers for graphic design, video editing, social media, administration, and more. Apply to volunteer →
Can I volunteer if I can't commit to every concert?
Yes. Most of our volunteers do one or two concerts a year. Roles open per-event and you sign up for the ones that work for you.
How do I become a member or supporter?
Our membership programme gives supporters early ticket access, exclusive updates, and recognition in our programmes. Find out more →
What does Gift Aid actually do?
If you're a UK taxpayer, ticking the Gift Aid box lets us claim an extra 25p from HMRC for every £1 you give. No cost to you. A £15/mo donation becomes £18.75/mo to IVGO.
Are you hiring anyone permanent?
Occasionally. Open roles are listed on the About page when they exist.
How do I sponsor IVGO or OST London 2027?
Sponsorship packages start at £1,000 (Bronze) and include programme placement, social thanks, and VIP tickets. Gold sponsors (£15,000+) receive co-branding on event materials and backstage access. View sponsorship packages →
